DUAL CREDIT ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY 12

(Anatomy and Physiology 12)

(Camosun College Biology 103)

Credits: 4 plus a first year credit at Camosun)

This is a fast paced semestered course that will provide students with credit in both Anatomy & Physiology 12 as well as credit in Bio 103 at Camosun College.  Students should be self driven and able to work independently, while covering the curriculum of the Anatomy and Physiology 12 course while also completing the Camosun Biology 103.

Lessons and evaluations will be presented/provided by both the classroom teacher at Lambrick as well as a Lecturer from Camosun concurrently, while students will also attend Camosun one evening per week completing laboratory experience within a weekly laboratory environment.

Students registering for this course should desire a deeper understanding of Human Anatomy and Physiology, have a keen interest in Biology, and also be self starters, willing to work independently and also in group like settings, where both courses intertwine with each other and cover a myriad of topics:

This Dual Credit Course enables willing and academically prepared students to pursue college-level studies while still in high school. Dual Credit Biology is organized into three Big Ideas: Biochemistry and the Molecules of Life, Bioenergetics, Information Storage and Transmission of DNA, as well as Biological System Interactions. The big ideas are further divided into nine units: Chemistry of Life, Cell Structure and Function, Bio cellular Energetics, Cell Communication and Cell Cycle, Heredity, Gene Expression and Regulation, as well as then deep diving into the interplay between the multiple large organ systems of the human body. Inquiry based investigations (case studies) throughout the course support scientific literacy and the practices of concept explanation, visual representation, questioning and methods, representing and describing data, statistical analysis and communication.  Given that the Bio 103 course is amalgamated with the AnP 12 course in this offering, students must be prepared for an increased pace as compared to a regular Anatomy and Physiology 12 course, as well as be prepared to complete mandatory weekly labs in the evenings each week at Camosun College.  Many Universities will provide students credit for a first year biology course due to the accompanying Bio 103 credit from Camosun College.

In general, students who take dual credit science courses, such as this one, will be much better prepared for the rigor of first year university courses.
