Grade 11 and Grade 12

If you are interested in comparing, understanding and appreciating Indigenous worldviews, cultures, and experiences from around the world, this is the course for you!  The Big Ideas of Contemporary Indigenous Studies 12 are to understand that:

• Indigenous identities, worldviews and languages are shaped by and connected to the land;
• Indigenous peoples around the world are reclaiming their well-being and asserting their rights to self-determination;
• Reconciliation is required to foster healing and address injustices.

Events from the 20th and 21st Centuries will be studied and evaluated in order to understand how colonization impacts Indigenous groups globally, but also with a consistent focus on Canada.  The course will focus on varying efforts of reconciliation and how Indigenous communities around the world are working at asserting their inherent right to self-determination.  This course will help us understand Indigenous worldviews in order to help all of us navigate a future that will need to be centered around sustainability and conservation.
