Composition:

Composition 10 is crafted to actively support students in refining their written communication skills by engaging in a critical process of questioning, exploration, and experimentation. Through both individual and collaborative efforts, students will delve into the creation of coherent and purposeful compositions. This course places a deliberate emphasis on the acquisition of formal academic writing skills, utilizing standardized English through a comprehensive study of grammar and composition. Grammar is not taught in isolation but rather as a means to enhance writing proficiency.

The potential areas of focus within Composition 10 include narrative, expository, descriptive, and persuasive writing. Students will be guided through the planning, drafting, and editing processes, honing their abilities to tailor their writing for distinct audiences and disciplines.

Furthermore, the course will equip students with essential skills such as citing sources, evaluating the credibility of evidence, and assessing the quality and reliability of information sources. Composition 10 aims to empower students with a robust foundation in written communication, providing them with the tools to excel in a variety of academic and professional contexts.

 

Literary Studies:

Literary Studies is designed for students who are interested the study of literature in general. The aim of the course is to enhance students’ literacy through the study of a body of works representative of the literary heritage of English-speaking peoples, including world literature. Research has shown that reading widely is an important factor in academic success. The course allows students to delve more deeply into literature as they explore specific themes, periods, authors, or areas of the world through literary works and in a variety of media.

Creative Writing:

Creative Writing is designed for students who have an interest in creative expression through language. The course provides students opportunities to build their writing skills through the exploration of identity, memory, and story in a range of genres. Students will collaborate and strengthen their skills through writing and the writing process.

New Media:

New Media is a program of studies designed to reflect the changing role of technology in today’s society and the increasing importance of digital media in communicating and exchanging ideas. Students will have the opportunity to explore texts through mediums such as websites, podcasts, documentary film, radio and more. Students will also explore their digital presence and the credibility of online material.
