History 12 is an exciting course for students interested in making connections between historical events and contemporary issues. This course covers the major historical events of the 20th century while also investigating current global issues and conflicts. Events considered include the Russian Revolution, World War II, the Cold War, and the collapse of the USSR. Human rights as promoted by Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., and Nelson Mandela may be studied along with historical examples of anti-Semitism and racism. Concepts examined include: nationalism, imperialism, democracy, fascism, communism, totalitarianism, and the fight for human rights. A key goal of History 12 is for students to be able to present well-supported arguments on historical questions and also to link historical events to contemporary issues.
