We use a multi-dimensional approach to second language learning which emphasizes communicative competence in listening, speaking, reading and writing. At all grade levels, our goal is to increase your knowledge, enjoyment and appreciation for the language and culture of French and Spanish speaking countries and to increase your ability to communicate effectively in a second language.

French is a valuable asset both personally and professionally. Not only does learning a second language open your world to new people, experiences and cultures, it gives you an advantage in many career fields such as the military, the RCMP, the federal civil government, as well as education, the arts, and the travel industry. Students who have previously studied in a French immersion program should consult the Modern Languages and Counselling Departments regarding appropriate placement.

Spanish is the third most widely spoken language in the world, after English and Mandarin. It is also the second most used language in international communication, after English. It is the unofficial second language of the United States, whose Spanish speaking population is as big as the entire population of Canada. Spanish is the official language in over 20 countries, including Mexico, and is commonly spoken in over 30 countries.
